Dr. Philip Nitschke, an Australian doctor who was the first in the world to use legal voluntary lethal injection at the request of a patient, has presented a controversial new project. This is a reusable device that is designed to commit a painless suicide without assistance.

Nitschke is the founder of Exit International, a non–profit organization that defends the "right to die." The doctor himself, who received the nickname "Doctor Death", is sure that not only seriously ill people have the right to euthanasia, but also everyone who suffers from depression or is simply "tired of life" and has decided to die.

The device he created is a futuristic-looking "capsule" similar to a bathyscaphe. It is called Sarco and is the fruit of Nitschke's collaboration with Dutch engineers. The device can be printed on a 3D printer and is easily assembled anywhere with a minimal set of tools. The capsule is designed so that its owner can pass away painlessly and calmly at the touch of a button.

Undoubtedly, the procedure can only be legal in the Netherlands. According to the developer, access to the capsule will be available to people who have filled out a special questionnaire on the Internet. This is necessary so that a person understands exactly what step he is taking and realizes the irreversibility of his actions. Applicants will receive a four-digit access code by e-mail, which will be able to activate the capsule.

A person who has decided to end his life will be able to lie down in a capsule, hermetically close it from the inside and, at the touch of a button, launch nitrogen gas into the capsule space, which will quickly displace oxygen from the respiratory system. After 60 seconds, disorientation in space will occur, similar to a "feeling of intoxication", and after about 5 minutes, death will occur. However, before the expiration of five minutes, a person inside the capsule will be able to interrupt the process at any time: by pressing the button to stop the gas supply and go outside.

Capsules differ in design: they can have a transparent window so that the person leaving this world can contemplate it in the process of leaving, or they can be completely opaque. It is possible to turn on the cozy illumination inside the capsule.

In addition, the capsule can be disconnected from the part of the apparatus that supplies gas, and it can be immediately used as a coffin. The inventor is confident that thanks to his idea, everyone will be able to commit suicide in a painless way at any time convenient for him.

Nitschke wants to provide the widest possible access to his device via the Internet so that anyone can order such a capsule with delivery. The only restriction set by the creator of Sarco for capsule customers is the age of at least 50 years. But it is obvious that this device will not be delivered to most countries due to legal restrictions.
