Biotechnology and society

The Ovchinnikov Society of Biotechnologists of Russia and the Innovative Development Club of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences invite you to take part in the Forum "Biotechnology and Society", held in Moscow on April 12, 2010 with the support of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Public Chamber, the Union of Enterprises of the Biotechnology Industry, the Union of Journalists of Russia, the European Federation of Biotechnology. The Forum is an associated event of the Second International Congress "EurasiaBio", which will be held in Moscow on April 13-15, 2010. All registered participants of the Congress "EurasiaBio-2010" can take part in the forum without additional payment.

The purpose of the event: to familiarize the general public with the achievements of biotechnology. This is especially relevant in connection with the discussions that periodically arise in society about the introduction into practice of the latest developments in the field of medical, food, agricultural, industrial, environmental biotechnology. At the same time, society is often not prepared for the perception of real scientific achievements and is sometimes inclined to believe myths rather than concrete scientifically based facts.

Leading topics:1. Biotechnologies in search of new forms of life on the planet (search for alternative forms of globalization, creation of quasi-autonomous social formations).

2. "Hot problems" of biotechnology development (biotechnology and society).
3. "Hot problems" of the development of biotechnologies (biotechnologies and humans).
4. Bioecopolises as a basic module of autonomous settlements.
5. Mechanisms for the development of interaction between the state, society and business in innovative development based on biotechnologies.

It is planned to hold a plenary session, round tables, webcasts of meetings, discussion and adoption of the final document of the forum. The Forum will summarize the results of the All–Russian competition of journalists "Biotechnology in Russia - science, economy, society".

Participants:Leading scientists, practitioners, public figures, media representatives.
Experts from different fields of knowledge are involved to discuss various aspects of this problem: biologists, chemists, physicians, philosophers, sociologists, psychologists, economists, etc.

Form of participation: speaker, panelist, listener, author of abstracts, participant of the journalists' competition. Participation is free.
Deadline for submission of abstracts: until March 15, 2010, The collection of materials of the forum is planned to be published before its start.

Working language: Russian.
