From science to business

To discuss issues of interaction between universities and commercial companies and exchange of experience, the International Forum "From Science to Business" - "Modern approaches of interaction between Universities and knowledge–intensive business" will be held for the fifth time in St. Petersburg from May 11 to 13, 2011.

The frequency and effectiveness of cooperation between universities and high-tech businesses have increased significantly over the past 2-3 years. Mainly due to the active support of such initiatives by the state, including through the adoption of Federal Law No. 217-FZ authorizing the university to create small innovative enterprises (MIP), Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 218 of 09.04.2010 and other projects.

The purpose of the International Forum "From Science to Business" is to solve scientific and practical problems on the protection of intellectual property and promotion of products to foreign markets, internationalization of commercialization, replication of experience in creating small innovative enterprises, etc.

The role of the International Forum "From Science to Business" is that it serves as a meeting place for innovative "West" and innovative "East" to assist, first of all, the university and scientific community in organizing and promoting their commercial developments.

The Forum is attended by people who are directly involved in the organization, support, financing, protection of intellectual property and its sale. Therefore, the Forum participants receive specific technologies for organizing innovative activities at their universities.

Among the speakers this year are Oleg Alekseev (Skolkovo), Oleg Strelkov (Rospatent), Viktor Avdeev (NGO "UNIMTEK"), Mikhail Khitrov (Speech Technology Center), Thomas Buchan and Torsten Clive (Munster University of Applied Sciences). To date, more than 160 people from more than 80 universities and research institutes of Russia and foreign countries, commercial companies have already expressed a desire to participate in the Forum.

One of the innovations of the Forum this year is the holding of a youth school "Incubation Practice: from an idea to a high–tech business", dedicated to all stages of project development: finding financing, investor relations, incubators, etc. Also, for the first time within the framework of the Forum Program, a business visit to Finland, the region of Jyvaskyla, will be organized in order to exchange experience in building innovative infrastructure and establishing business contacts.

More detailed information, the draft program, and the registration form for participation are available on the Forum's website.
