New possibilities of medicine and diagnostics

Discussion at the section "Healthcare" within the framework of the Forum "Open Innovations"

The prospects of remote treatment, early diagnosis of diseases and replacement of doctors with robots will be revealed by Russian and foreign specialists within the framework of the events of the section "Healthcare", which will take place on October 15, 2014, on the second day of the III Moscow International Forum of Innovative Development "Open Innovations".

The business program of the second day of the Open Innovations Forum includes eight thematic sections where the world's leading experts will discuss the prospects and results of innovation implementation in various sectors of the economy. The section "Healthcare" will be devoted to the discussion of current problems and the future of medicine.

The panel discussion "Treatment at a distance: new opportunities of telemedicine" will open the section. The centralized healthcare system is now facing such problems as an increase in the number of elderly people with limited mobility, the need to reduce costs and the growing demand for services for residents of hard-to-reach and remote areas. At the same time, high quality and efficiency of medical services are in demand more than ever. Telemedicine is designed to solve these problems. The participants of the discussion will discuss the possibilities and prospects of telemedicine and obstacles to its development. The event is attended by Kazuhiro Hara, President, Japan Telemedicine Association; Gunther Schreier, Senior Scientific and Thematic Coordinator of the Department of Auxiliary Information Technologies and Security, Austrian Institute of Technology; Rick Valencia, Vice President, CEO, Qualcomm Life; Kirill Kaem, Vice President, Executive Director of the Biomedical Technologies Cluster, Skolkovo Foundation". The moderator will be Ralph Simon, CEO, Founder, Mobilium Global. Experts will consider the actual problem of compatibility of telemedicine systems using different methods and technologies, as well as technical achievements in the field of human–machine interaction and revolutionary breakthroughs in telemedicine, taking place in Russia as well.

The Open Innovations Talks section "Robotics in Medicine" will continue. The main topic of the discussion is trends at the intersection of technologies and new models of providing medical services. Various robots and mechanisms help to reduce costs, improve the quality of operations and turn clinics into active consumers of the most advanced technologies. The moderator of the event is Albert Efimov, Director of IT Projects, Skolkovo Foundation, key speakers are Moshe Shoam, Scientific Director, Founder, Mazor Robotics. Leading experts will give examples of the use of robots in surgery and practical patient care, as well as answer the question whether new expensive technologies can significantly improve the quality of medical services.

To discuss topical strategic issues in the field of early detection of diseases, specialists will gather for a panel discussion "Medical diagnostics: quickly, accurately and in advance". Diagnostics is one of the most important parts of medicine, it significantly improves the results of treatment and reduces the amount of resources spent. Innovations in the field of biomedical devices allow us to create completely new diagnostic categories that allow us to quickly conduct an examination, make an accurate diagnosis and start treatment as early as possible. The achievements of new technologies will be presented by Alexey Butenko, Professor, MD, Chief oncologist of the Central Federal District of Russia, leading specialist of PET-Technology LLC, Jack Andraka, inventor, and other speakers.

"Healthcare and medicine are the most complex and conservative industries for the introduction of new technologies and innovations. The coming second age of machines will bring changes not only in everyday human life and production, but also in the way doctors treat and save lives. There is no escape from these changes, as they are necessary for all mankind, saving millions of lives," says Albert Efimov, Director of IT projects at the Skolkovo Foundation. – Promising areas for the development of medical robotics have been put up for discussion in the framework of the section "Healthcare". The extensive knowledge and rich practical experience of the world-renowned experts participating in it will help to understand the trends and context of the upcoming dramatic changes."

The Forum of Innovations Foundation is the operator of the Moscow International Forum of Innovative Development "Open Innovations" and the Open Innovations Expo exhibition, a global discussion platform dedicated to the latest technologies and prospects for international cooperation in the field of innovation. The Forum and exhibition are held under the auspices of the Government of Russia, with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia and with the participation of the Government of Moscow, as well as Russian development institutions: RUSNANO Group, GC "Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank)", JSC "RVC", the Development Fund of the Center for the Development and Commercialization of New Technologies, the Assistance Fund development of small forms of enterprises in the scientific and technical sphere, ANO "Agency for Strategic Initiatives" and CCI of the Russian Federation.
