RUSNANOTECH 2010: Day one

The Third International Forum on Nanotechnology RUSNANOTECH 2010 has started its work in Moscow. The opening ceremony of the Forum was attended by First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of RUSNANOTECH 2010 Sergey Ivanov, CEO of RUSNANO Anatoly Chubais, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Nobel Prize laureate, Academician Zhores Alferov and CEO of Microsoft Steve Ballmer.

Sergey Ivanov noted in his speech that the number of foreign participants of the Forum has increased by a third this year. This means that the global discussion platform of the Third International Forum on Nanotechnology is in demand not only among Russian, but also foreign entrepreneurs and scientists.

He also noted that "at the end of the year, Russia was able to take the fourth place in terms of private investment in the field of nanotechnology. This figure amounted to 17 billion rubles."

In total, over 3,000 Russian and foreign politicians, scientists and entrepreneurs will take part in the Forum, which will last until November 3.

The official program of the Third International Forum on Nanotechnology includes business and scientific and technological parts. More than 40 discussions will be held here within three days. Their main topics are the use of nanotechnology in the fuel and energy sector, construction and other industries, electronics and telecommunications, medicine and healthcare. In addition, various forms of support for innovative business, the innovative potential of Russian regions, as well as the implementation of educational programs in the interests of enterprises of the high-tech segment of the economy will be discussed. Finally, a separate section is devoted to the issues of technical regulation and metrology of the nanoindustry, as well as the safety of nanotechnology for the environment and human health. A special section will be devoted to the participation of Russian scientists working abroad in innovative projects implemented in our country.

This year, the site of the International Forum on Nanotechnology was chosen for the first German-Russian symposium on nanomaterials "New Horizons". Leading Russian and German experts will discuss topical issues related to scientific research and development in this area, as well as their application in industry.

In addition to speeches, 558 poster presentations will be presented at the Forum as part of the scientific and technological part, both guests of the event and participants of the Third International Competition of Scientific Works of Young Scientists in the field of nanotechnology.

An exhibition of nanotechnology products will be held at the forum site for three days. This year it will be attended by more than 360 companies from Russia and 13 countries (Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Iran, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, the Republic of Belarus, the USA, Finland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Japan).

The Russian part of the exhibition will be represented by expositions of the Altai, Krasnoyarsk, Perm and Stavropol Territories, Belgorod, Vladimir, Volgograd, Voronezh, Irkutsk, Kaluga, Leningrad, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Orenburg, Penza, Sverdlovsk, Tomsk and Ulyanovsk regions, Udmurt and Chuvash Republics, the Republics of Mordovia, Sakha (Yakutia), Tatarstan, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the science cities of Troitsk and Dubna.

The exhibition program also includes a series of seminars where visitors will be able to learn about the developments of exhibiting companies "firsthand".

For the first time in the history of the III International Forum on Nanotechnology, its platform is open not only to scientists and hi-tech entrepreneurs, but also artists. RUSNANO and the Fund for the Promotion of Nanotechnology "Forum Rosnanotech" present two unique expositions at the Forum at once.

So, RUSNANO, together with the National Science Foundation of the USA (National Science Foundation) and the journal Science, will exhibit at the Rusnanotech 2010 forum the photo works of the winners of the international competition International Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge (ISEVC). Next to the exhibition of photographs there are exhibits of the project "Hi-tech as a premonition", organized by the RUSNANOTECH 2010 Foundation.

The last day of the Forum will be opened by a plenary session, during which the Director General of RUSNANO Anatoly Chubais and the director of the State Institution "Russian Scientific Center Kurchatov Institute" Mikhail Kovalchuk will speak. Then there will be a panel discussion "Incentives and barriers to innovation". It will be moderated by the famous TV presenter Vladimir Pozner.

On November 3, the awarding ceremonies of the RUSNANOPRIZE 2010 International Prize in Nanotechnology, the Russian Youth Award in the Field of Nanoindustry and the International Competition of Scientific works of Young scientists in the field of nanotechnology will also take place.
