Contest of popular science articles "bio/mol/text"

The Biomolecule website announces a contest for the best popular science publication in the field of modern biology. This is a competition for authors who are able to tell the reader about the achievements of biomolecular science correctly, accessible and with a fervent spark.

The main topics of the competition are molecular biology and biophysics, biomedicine and bio- and nanotechnology.

Terms of the competition: works are accepted from July 1 to October 31, 2011. The results of the competition (according to the decision of the jury) will be published in November 2011. on the website biomolecula.ru .

Articles of the declared subject in the following nominations are accepted for the competition:

  • the best review article revealing a small scientific field (at least 10 thousand characters)the premium is 10,000 rubles.
  • the best news report covering a scientific study published since the beginning of 2011. (at least 5 thousand characters)the award is 5,000 rubles.
  • the best press release on the topic of his scientific work (at least 10 thousand characters)the premium is 10,000 rubles.
    The participant has the right to submit no more than one work for each nomination.

Selection criteriaEveryone is allowed to participate in the competition, regardless of age, profession and citizenship;

  1. Articles are provided in Russian;
  2. Both articles written specifically for the competition and already published works are accepted for participation (not earlier than July 1, 2010). In the latter case, the editorial board reserves the right to ask the author to finalize the article taking into account the specifics and topics of the competition;
  3. Books and chapters from them, scientific articles and pseudoscientific hypotheses are not accepted for the competition;
  4. An article can be written by a team of authors, but it must be submitted by one person;
  5. The jury members do not take part in the competition in the categories that they judge.

Publication rulesAll articles are pre-selected, according to which any work can be rejected;

  1. The editorial board has the right to ask the authors to finalize the submitted article taking into account the subject of the site and the specifics of the competition;
  2. The editorial board reserves the right to make any changes to the submitted articles;
  3. When choosing a topic of work, it makes sense to focus on the range of articles already published on the site. It makes no sense to repeat the topics already covered; it is recommended to refer to these materials instead;
  4. A preliminary meeting with the editorial board about the choice of the topic of work is allowed;
  5. The articles that have passed the preliminary selection are published on the website as they become available (during the competition period). The articles will clearly indicate that they are submitted for the competition and for which nomination. The evaluation of the articles will be conducted by the jury members from November 1, 2011.;
  6. The published materials are subject to the site's license (Creative Commons). After the publication on the website and the end of the contest, the authors have the right to dispose of the original text at their discretion.

Application for the competition and the rules of registration of worksMaterials should be written in a language accessible to a wide audience, as well as contain original illustrations.

Before applying for the contest, you must register on the website and provide basic information about yourself:

  • Real name and surname (participation under pseudonyms is not allowed);
  • Occupation, place of work or study and position;
  • Area of scientific interests;
  • Motivation to participate in the competition (optional);
  • A valid email address and (optionally) other communication methods.

Your work should be sent to the e-mail address of the editorial office of Biomolecule (editorial@biomolecula.ru ), specifying in the letter a link to the user's profile on the site and attaching a file (in doc, docx, odt or rtf format) with the article. The subject of the letter should be "Article for the competition".

The publication should be prepared in the format accepted on the website:

  • title of the work;
  • brief abstracts of the work (abstract);
  • title illustration with caption;
  • main text with subheadings;
  • illustrations and captions to them. Illustrations can also be provided as separate files (it is possible in the archive);
  • a list of cited literature, preferably with hyperlinks.

If necessary, all additional information (for example, that the article was previously published in any publication) can also be provided in the application letter.

The composition of the juryThe evaluation of all articles submitted to the competition will be carried out by the jury from November 1, 2011.

The work will be assigned an average score among the scores given by each member of the jury, taking into account a number of criteria.

AwardingCash prizes will be transferred to the winners via the Yandex system.
