Postgraduate study for biologists at the University of Basel

Grants 2015 for postgraduate studies in Switzerland

The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research) announces the recruitment of young specialists to study under the International Postgraduate Program (FMI International PhD Program) with a PhD degree from the University of Basel.

Young specialists with an academic degree (master's degree, specialist, etc.) are invited to participate in the competition, which makes it possible to enroll in postgraduate studies in the applicant's home country. Students who plan to receive such a degree by the beginning of the FMI program can participate in the competitive selection.

The main scientific directions presented in the FMI:

  • infection biology
  • neurobiology
  • cell biology
  • developmental biology
  • biophysical chemistry
  • structural biology
  • systems biology
  • bioinformatics.

The usual duration of a PhD program at the University of Basel is 4 years. The scientific supervision of the graduate student's work is carried out by the head of the scientific group, you can additionally choose a supervisor from professors and experts of the University.

The program is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Applications for participation in the program are accepted twice a year. Applications are usually accepted in May and December. The shortlist of candidates invited for an interview is published in January and June, respectively.

The nearest deadline for accepting applications is November 30, 2014.

Applications are submitted online. A copy of the diploma and CV must be attached to the application (the maximum volume is 1 page). A letter of recommendation (at least one) written in accordance with the sample presented on the website must be sent by the person giving the recommendation directly to the competition commission before the deadline for accepting applications.
