Subsidies to young scientists of St. Petersburg

The Committee on Science and Higher Education on the basis of the Law of St. Petersburg of 19.11.2008 No. 730-129 "On the budget of St. Petersburg for 2009 and for the planning period of 2010 and 2011", the decree of the Government of St. Petersburg of 19.06.2007 No. 684 "On the main measures for the development of scientific activity in St. Petersburg for 2008-2011" and the Decree of the Government of St. Petersburg of 14.04.2009 No. 387 "On the procedure for granting grants in 2009 in the form of grants to young scientists, young candidates of sciences of universities and academic institutions located in St. Petersburg" conducts in 2009 a competitive selection for granting subsidies to young scientists, young candidates of sciences of universities and academic institutions in 2009 institutes located on the territory of St. Petersburg (hereinafter referred to as competitive selection).

The main purpose of the competitive selection is to identify the most capable and active young researchers in universities and academic institutions of St. Petersburg, their moral and material encouragement.

Subsidies are provided on a gratuitous and irrevocable basis to individuals – producers of works, services, who are young scientists (with the exception of students and postgraduates of universities and academic institutes located on the territory of St. Petersburg), young candidates of sciences of universities and academic institutes located on the territory of St. Petersburg, namely:

– St. Petersburg universities with state accreditation;
– Academic institutes of the St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
– St. Petersburg institutions of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Russian Academy of Education, the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences.

Each applicant for subsidies may submit to the competition only one application for a subsidy.

The maximum amount of the subsidy for young scientists is 100 thousand rubles.,
for young candidates of sciences – 150 thousand rubles.

The conditions for granting subsidies are: – the age of applicants for subsidies is not more than 35 years;


– implementation by applicants for subsidies of scientific activities in universities or academic institutions located on the territory of St. Petersburg;
– the absence of other budgetary allocations for reimbursement of costs in connection with the performance of works, the provision of services in the implementation of scientific activities;
– scientific novelty of products and results of scientific activity;
– the possibility of using the products and results of scientific activity in practice;
– the significance of the proposed products and results of scientific activity
for St. Petersburg.

Deadline for submission of applications: until May 27, 2009 (inclusive)
