Homeopaths Strike back

Alexander Panchin

On February 7, the chairman of the National Council for Homeopathy, Alexey Karpeev, said that "a decision has been made to prepare a response to the RAS Commission." "It won't be soon," the homeopath added. – The answer should be thorough, with an analysis of the work."

On February 12, the answer was already online.

If you still had doubts that homeopathy should be called by the word "pseudoscience", then this document will dispel the last doubts. The cherry on the cake is this quote:

"Based on scientific research in recent years, we have reason to assume that a homeopathic drug is a set of quantum fields formed during the implementation of the technology of potentiation (stepwise dynamization), which interact bioresonantly with similar quantum fields of the body, i.e. similar interacts with similar ..."

You were not mistaken: this meaningless set of words is passed off as a reasonable scientific assumption (without a single reference). If this is not pseudoscience, then I do not know what. To homeopaths, please tell us with what device they recorded the "state of the quantum fields of organisms" (whatever that means) before and after the use of homeopathic medicines, where it is published and when they plan to receive the Nobel Prize for this discovery.

And the National Council for Homeopathy proposes "to create a Commission on Homeopathy under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which will attract the capabilities of the Russian Academy of Sciences to the scientific substantiation of the phenomenon of homeopathy." Please note: this is not even about verification, but about justification! And it does not matter that the rationale for the phenomenon has long been given: people take the results of natural recovery as proof of the healing properties of sugar balls and find cause-and-effect relationships where there are none.

No wonder the National Council for Homeopathy was nominated for the anti-award of the Ministry of Education and Science along with the "Battle of Psychics".

Let me remind you that these people with their quantum fields plan to participate in the expert group of the Ministry of Health, which will decide the fate of this pseudo-medicine in our country. I hope that the Ministry of Health will at least consult with astrologers before inviting homeopaths to discuss.

Well, if someone else doubted the danger of homeopathy, then I suggest you read the titles of some reports at the XXVII Moscow International Homeopathic Conference, which has just ended:

  • "Application of the method of classical homeopathy in the complex treatment of recurrent melanoma".
  • "Possibilities of the method of classical homeopathy in the treatment of complex rhythm disorders (atrial fibrillation)".
  • "Possibilities of the method of classical homeopathy in the treatment of bone pathology".
  • "The possibilities of classical homeopathy in the treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias".
  • "The possibilities of classical homeopathy in the treatment of psychiatric diseases".
  • "Possibilities of electropuncture diagnostics in the treatment of urogenital infections".

If these speeches did not contain conclusions about the "lack of opportunities", then I am afraid for the future of the country.

The conference was not without breakout sessions "Orthodoxy and homeopathy" and "Electropuncture diagnostics, bioresonance therapy, ozone therapy".

The most amazing thing is that this event took place in the Central House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences. With the presentation of a new textbook on physiology with a chapter on homeopathy.

We issued the memorandum in time, because this is already some kind of hell and a threat to national health.

P.S. Homeopaths in their response accuse the authors of the memorandum and other opponents of homeopathy of being biased by pharmaceutical companies producing "synthetic drugs unnatural for the body." In proof, according to their homeopathic habit, they do not cite anything other than a personal "conviction".

Let me remind you that the Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Combating Pseudoscience is a small public organization that does not have any funding and chooses the topics of statements according to its idea of their social significance, and not by anyone's "order". Neither I nor my colleagues have received a single ruble from anyone for working on this memorandum.

But homeopathy is the sale of sugar worth tens of thousands of rubles per kilogram. And several large corporations sell such sugar to our fellow citizens for 8 billion rubles a year. Draw your own conclusions.

I recommend reading the memorandum.

P.P.S. Today on the Moscow 24 TV channel I met a doctor Dmitry Buletov. He told me about a recent case in his practice. I quote with permission:

"I treated a child, 9 years old. Who at first started complaining that something in his mouth was bothering him. His parents took him to the dentist, who referred him immediately to an oncologist. However, there was no oncologist in the area where the patients live. Then, instead of going to the central hospital, the parents turned to a homeopath. He treated them for 9 months. More precisely, I watched the tumor grow on my face and said: "this is normal, it will have to pour out black water" (this is a quote). Only when the child stopped eating on his own, his grandfather brought him to us. But, it was already too late.

We had to put a tracheostomy, because there was a risk that the tumor would close the airways. The tumor was 22 cm in diameter. It destroyed the bones of the face, sprouted large vessels. We tried to cure him, but the tumor was not sensitive to chemotherapy and because of its huge size and anatomical features it cannot be removed. The child was found to be unfit. That is, someone who cannot be helped. Unfortunately, the child is still suffering from a tumor. It grows slowly (now it is already 31 cm), does not metastasize and does not respond to treatment. It could have been removed if the parents had not wasted time on a homeopath. It is treated without consequences by simple removal."

Dmitry told another story from the words of a colleague: "An uncle came to the urologist in our polyclinic about 10 years ago. Prostatic specific antigen (PSA) was found at a concentration of 40 ng/ml (norm up to 4). He was sent for a biopsy and other additional examinations, but the man disappeared. Last fall, the patient reappeared with a PSA of 700 ng/ml and acute urinary retention. He was sent to the department, but they could not help. The daughter of the deceased patient wrote a complaint that the doctors did not protect. And a man was treated by a homeopath for 10 years."
