Novosibirsk developer of the breast cancer vaccine "AquasisBio" has completed its preclinical trials and is preparing a batch of the vaccine for clinical trials, Vladimir Nikonov, Minister of Science and Education of the region, said on Wednesday at the scientific expert council under the regional government.
"A full cycle of preclinical trials has been completed, and the company has reached the production of a batch of vaccines for clinical trials. The goal of the project, as it was stated, has been achieved," he said, without specifying when it is planned to start testing.
The development of the vaccine was one of four projects supported from the regional budget. In total, 5 million rubles were allocated from the budget of the Novosibirsk Region for the development of a breast cancer vaccine in 2012-2013.

The developers of the cancer vaccine – the Novosibirsk company "Laboratory of Dendritic Cells" (LDK) will receive 2 million rubles from the regional budget for the implementation of their project and propose to create a center for cell therapy of oncological diseases in Novosibirsk, RIA Novosti correspondent reports from a meeting of the expert council under the regional government.
LDK researcher Arina Shirshova presented the project "Development of cellular protocols for stimulation of antitumor immune response using antigen-activated dendritic cells to the culture of mononuclear cells of patients with non-small cell lung cancer" at a meeting of the council on Wednesday.
"Dendritic cells are unique cells capable of training the immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells, moreover, the training program can be set based on the type of tumor. That's how the idea of a cancer vaccine came about," she said.
According to Shirshova, the vaccine will prolong the patient's life, and some groups of researchers report a complete cure. There is no domestic vaccine, foreign ones are not suitable, since the vaccine is prepared individually with the direct participation of the patient. It is planned to produce it on the basis of the Institute of Clinical Immunology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences starting in 2016.
The Scientific Expert Council approved the LDK project, 2 million rubles will be allocated for its implementation.
"In the absence of competitors in Novosibirsk, it is possible to create a center for cell therapy of oncological diseases," a representative of LDK suggested at the meeting.
In December 2012, the company received the status of a Skolkovo participant with the project "Development of technologies for cellular immunotherapy of oncological diseases using dendritic cells".
