Take a nanopile!

JSC Rusnano co-finances the production of pharmaceuticals with nanocarriers made of porous silicon and other nanomaterialsThe total volume of the project is estimated at 4,095 million rubles, including Rusnano co-financing in the amount of 1,280 million rubles.

The applicant of the project and its co-investor was the group of companies "Epidbiomed", which has been operating on the Russian market since 1991. The Nanolek project company was created to implement the project.

The project provides for the production of three groups of pharmaceuticals – solid dosage forms with prolonged action, vaccines and organogels. The group of solid dosage forms includes drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, anticancer and antiviral drugs. The effect of known active substances in these preparations is prolonged due to their sorption on porous silicon nanoparticles. The effectiveness of vaccines, including the flu vaccine, is enhanced by its modification with aluminum oxide. Ointments and gels are made on the basis of lecithin organogel – this accelerates the transport of funds for the prevention of thrombosis and anti-inflammatory agents through the skin.

To improve the therapeutic properties of import-substituting drugs, a technology is used that provides a prolonged effect of the active substance by sorbing it on porous silicon nanoparticles. Possessing the properties of biodegradability, optimal desorption rate and being non-toxic, porous silicon nanoparticles are an ideal transport of the active substance, providing gradual separation from pores of about 10 nm in size.

Vaccines
Production of vaccines based on cell culture, as well as vaccines modified with an immunological adjuvant based on aluminum oxide Al2O3 nanoparticles (arrows are shown in the figure). The use of a nanocomposer will increase the effectiveness of the drugs by enhancing the immune response with less antigenic load on the human body.

OrganogelsLecithin nanostructures perfectly combine the ability to accelerate the transdermal transport of medicinal substances with the ability to include high concentrations of biologically active substances in them, while having better stability compared to liposomes.
The spatial structure of lecithin organogels is formed from intertwined cylindrical aggregates with a diameter of one and a length of tens and hundreds of nanometers – reverse lecithin micelles.

According to the business plan, the estimated revenue in 2017 for three groups of drugs will be about 10 billion rubles. The market for the project's products, according to Rusnano experts, currently exceeds 120 billion rubles and will grow by an average of 10% over the coming years.

To implement the project in the Kirov region, it is planned to create a research and production holding. The full-cycle enterprise will allow solving the problems of import substitution of socially significant drugs. For the development of innovative medicines and technologies, it is planned to create a research center with pilot production as part of the complex.
