American analysts from Frost & Sullivan have identified global health trends in the coming year. The main ones are artificial intelligence systems and blockchain.

In 2019, corporations such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon will continue to dominate the healthcare system in Western countries, while Baidu, Ali Health and Tencent will remain the main players in the eastern ones. The main investments for research on the development of new drugs will be aimed at meeting the needs of emerging markets in Asia, experts say. In addition, next year will be a test of the strength of two of the most hyped technologies for use in healthcare – artificial intelligence and blockchain, writes Forbes.

Forecast No. 1: up to 15% of healthcare costs will be spent on therapeutic models, which are based on the concept of the value of the result of treatment, and not only on economic benefits. The main drivers in this, according to experts, will be countries with healthcare spending of about 10% of GDP, primarily: the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Germany, Canada and Japan.

Forecast No. 2: The market of medical technologies using artificial intelligence will overcome the barrier of $ 1.7 billion. Analysts expect AI to further strengthen its position in the healthcare sector in all areas, including clinical and preclinical research.

The key areas where AI and machine learning will be indispensable, scientists call instrumental diagnostics, the development of new drugs, as well as risk assessment for patients with various diseases.

Forecast #3: Personalized digital medicine will grow by 30% and exceed $25 billion. Digital technologies, including gadgets and mobile applications for health management, will gain popularity among all categories of the population.

Forecast No. 4: The Asian region will become the main innovation center for manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. Experts predict that next year up to 10% of all medical research will be localized in the emerging markets of Asia. In addition, a number of global pharmaceutical manufacturers will adapt their products to the needs of the local population, thereby further enhancing the growth of the pharmaceutical industry in the region.

Forecast No. 5: Analytics will shift from big data to more highly specialized ones, as a result of which 50% of medical companies will have their own tools in their arsenal to predict individual health risks of patients. Experts believe that they will determine the best treatment methods for people at an early stage, and the synergy of AI and data analysis will strengthen therapeutic and diagnostic capabilities.

Forecast No. 6: Speech recognition and reproduction technologies will begin to dominate in healthcare. Experts believe that modern capabilities are still limited for the full interaction of an AI doctor with a patient, but next year will fix it.

The main areas of medicine where voice assistants will be used will be: care for the elderly, support for patients with chronic diseases, a mobile doctor's assistant.

Forecast No. 7: Blockchain in the healthcare system will cease to be only "fashionable", but it will also become economically profitable. Experts estimate that by the end of next year, about 5-10% of medical blockchain technologies will switch from the experimental stage to commercial use.

Forecast No. 8: In order to keep up with the needs of customers, and also, of course, to prevent a decrease in interest among the population, insurance companies will begin to use blockchain and data analysis to make medical policies more personalized. Experts estimate that by the end of 2019 5-10% of all policies will be based on data on a person's lifestyle. In addition, it will help shape future discounts for policy holders, further fueling interest in health insurance.
