A way to protect yourself from cancer has been found

RIA News

High vitamin D content in the body can prevent the development of cancer, the BMJ press service reports: Higher Vitamin D levels may be linked to lower risk of cancer.

An international group of scientists came to this conclusion after analyzing blood samples and personal data – diet, lifestyle, history of cancer in the family – more than 33 thousand Japanese aged 40-69 years, who were monitored for over 16 years. Taking into account factors such as age, weight, degree of physical activity and attitude to smoking and alcohol consumption, the results of the study indicated that a high concentration of vitamin D reduces the risk of cancer by 20%. This applies to both women and men.

A high level of the substance in the blood is also associated with a reduced (by 30-50%) probability of liver cancer, and the connection in this case turned out to be stronger in the male group of study participants.

The authors of the scientific work are confident that the results obtained confirm the thesis that vitamin D protects against cancer. However, in their opinion, it cannot be excluded that when the concentration of a substance is below a certain level, there may be no additional effect. Scientists also make a reservation that the final result could be influenced by unaccounted factors. The authors call the strengths of their study a large sample, a long period of observation of participants and a large amount of information on blood tests.
