Three hundred percent vision

Bionic lens: we will never need glasses again

Julia Bondar, Copper News

The Canadian company Ocumetics Technology Corporation is conducting clinical trials of its product called Bionic Lens, a bionic lens. This is a medical device that can permanently replace both glasses and any contact lenses for vision correction. If the tests are successful, the bionic lens will appear in the arsenal of eye surgeons in two years. It is quite possible that a bionic lens will give its owner super vision.

Bionic Lens is a dynamic lens that replaces the lens inside the eyeball with a routine operation used in cataract surgery. After installation, the lens restores clear vision at all distances without any quality problems. It connects to the ciliary muscle, and is able to self-regulate, focusing at different distances. It is noted that the range of its focusing is potentially much wider than the range of a conventional lens. In addition, only 1/100 of the energy needed for the lens is spent on its work, which means that the owner of a bionic lens will be able to focus on something all day without any strain on the eyes.

Imagine that you are looking at a watch that is three meters away from you, and you are clearly able to see them in detail. With Bionic Lens, this distance, as promised by the manufacturers, will increase to 9 meters without any tension. In addition, at very close distances, Bionic Lens will give the vision of its owner superpowers. If you look closely at the finger held up to your eyes, you will be able to see even skin cells.

It is also interesting that bionic lenses can be combined with components that allow them to be modified and improved in the future, for example, to project a phone screen onto the retina, increase the resolution even more, or even embed a system for feeding medicine into the eye, if necessary – such a function is expected to be very much in demand by all patients with glaucoma and other eye diseases.

Dr. Garth Webb, the main inventor and creator of the bionic binza, says that its only drawback will be its absence, as it will give huge advantages to its owner.

The innovative device already has a price: $ 3,200 for one lens, not counting the cost of the operation. It is noted that, despite its super-functions, the lens will not solve absolutely all vision problems: it will not be able to cure color blindness, ophthalmic myopathy, retinal diseases and damage to the optic nerve, but it will definitely be able to permanently rid a person of cataracts, as well as farsightedness and myopia.
