Would you wash with this shampoo?

Soap and shampoo were proposed to be replaced with sewer bacteria

Medical Xpress news: Sweat-eating bacteria may improve skin healthAmmonia-processing anaerobic bacteria, living mainly in the sewer, can successfully replace shampoo and shower gel, and in the future be used to treat skin diseases, according to the American biotech company AOBiome.

The company's website was developed clearly under the influence of the object of its research – VM :)

An experiment conducted under the auspices of the company, whose results were presented at the 5th Conference of the American Society of Microbiology in Washington, showed that bacteria effectively cleanse the skin of the face and head, as well as improve its condition in general.

Ammonia oxidizing bacteria are the main component of the nitrogen cycle in the environment. Their usual habitat is soil and water, but their greatest concentrations are observed in organic-rich places, for example in sewage drains. Researchers from AOBiome have suggested that such microorganisms will perfectly fit into the ecosystem of human skin, since the products of ammonia oxidation play an important role in the physiological processes occurring in it, relieving inflammation, reducing acidity and ensuring healing.

In the course of a blind, placebo-controlled study, a strain of the bacterium Nitrosomonas eutropha isolated from soil was used. 24 volunteers participated in the experiment, some of whom received an aqueous solution saturated with live bacteria, and some, without knowing it, received a placebo. Participants were asked to give up shampoo and soap for two weeks, and instead apply a liquid containing bacteria to the skin of the face and head.

As a result, the members of the group who "washed" with the help of bacteria had a qualitative improvement in the condition of the skin compared to the placebo group. Moreover, the greater the concentration of Nitrosomonas eutropha present on the skin of the participants, the better its condition was. This hygiene method did not cause any negative side effects.

The next step of the researchers will be to study the therapeutic possibilities of Nitrosomonas eutropha for acne (acne) and trophic ulcers.
