The new geroprotector will be tested on volunteers

Scientists are preparing for the first clinical trials of a new anti-aging drug

DailyTechInfo based on SlashGear materials: Anti-aging human drug tests may start as early as July

Medical scientists from Washington University, St. Louis, USA, and Keio University, Japan, are preparing to launch joint clinical trials of a new drug that can significantly slow down the aging process of the human body. These tests can be started in early-mid-July of this year, but previously the Research Ethics Committee of Keio University should give a green light to their start, whose specialists will evaluate all ethical aspects of these studies.

During clinical trials, the effectiveness of the drug and its safety for humans will be checked. Previously conducted studies in animals have already shown an effective slowing down of the aging process. The basis of the new drug is the substance nicotinamide mononucleotide (nicotinamide mononucleotide, NMN), and during the trials this drug will be administered to ten adult and healthy human volunteers.

Studies conducted by scientists from the University of Washington have shown that the substance NMN activates genes responsible for the production of certain proteins, sirtuins. The presence of an increased concentration of these proteins in the body of experimental rodents caused a significant slowdown in the age-related degradation of vision and metabolic processes in their body. In addition, the substance NMN affected other parameters of the body, in other words, this substance has become something like an "elixir of life" for rodents, but scientists still do not know whether it will have a similar effect in relation to the human body.

At the first stage of clinical trials, scientists will find out whether the substance NMN is safe for the human body. In case of obtaining a positive result and confidence in the absence of any side effects, the researchers will proceed to the main thing, to determine whether the drug provides an "anti-aging" effect on the human body.

And in conclusion, it should be noted that people have long dreamed of the "elixir of life" and the "elixir of youth", a hypothetical drug that not only stops the aging process, but can also reverse it, allowing people to live young and not have problems with their health. The drug developed on the basis of the substance NMN, of course, is still very far from the ideal described above, nevertheless, it is the first step on the way to the dream of mankind. And its use, in the case of successful clinical trials, can have a strong impact on the entire human society, allowing people to always live an active life and dramatically reducing their costs of fighting many age-related diseases.

From the editorial office:
Regarding the "cost reduction", we strongly recommend reading the afterword to the article "A new (and reversible!) the cause of aging." If clinical studies confirm the rejuvenating effect of NMN, only very rich people will be able to take it.
