Cannabis has finally been legalized

In Uruguay, the sale of medical marijuana by prescription is allowed

The Uruguayan authorities have allowed the sale of marijuana for medical purposes with a doctor's prescription. The relevant decree is available on the website of the Administration of the President of the Latin American Republic.

Marijuana will be sold only to persons over the age of 18 no more than once a month as prescribed by a doctor. Marijuana cultivation is also allowed. It will be possible to buy cannabis from producers who have received a license from the Institute for Regulation and Control over the Turnover of Cannabis.

Uruguayan doctors do not plan to write prescriptions for medical marijuana yet. As Gerardo Eguren, deputy of the Medical Union of Uruguay, told the local newspaper El Pais, they were not taught at the medical faculty to consider marijuana as a medicinal product. He believes that prescriptions for cannabis as an analgesic will probably be prescribed by oncologists or psychiatrists.

The law on the legalization of marijuana in Uruguay was adopted in December 2013. The entry into force of the regulatory act was expected in the second half of 2014, but then the date was postponed to 2015 due to technical difficulties.

Uruguay became the first country in the world to legalize the production, sale and use of marijuana under state control. As previously reported, cannabis will be sold at a dollar per gram, you can buy no more than 40 grams per month.

It is also allowed to grow marijuana at home, but no more than six bushes, the annual production volume is limited to 480 grams. Another way to use marijuana is to join clubs. Each such club will have 15-45 people. With the help of legalization, the Uruguayan authorities plan to oust illegal marijuana sellers from the market.
