There is no sadder story in the world…

A film about the cyborg Romeo and the genetically modified Juliet will be shot in the USA

Lionsgate will be engaged in the film adaptation of Stan Lee's famous futuristic graphic novel "Romeo and Juliet: War". Representing – understandably – some reinterpretation of the classic drama "William our Shakespeare", writes Variety ('Romeo and Juliet: The War' Movie in the Works at Lionsgate).

Romeo and Juliet: The War is a terry science fiction about the war of the Montague cyborg clan and the Capulet clan of genetically modified superhumans. And then – according to the original.

"It's a great joy to finally announce a partnership with Lionsgate," Lee says peacefully. "The story of Romeo and Juliet is one of my absolute favorites, and I can't wait to bring our project to life."

Having created "Romeo and Juliet: War", the legendary Stan Lee, the "father" of Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, X–Men (other, other) and the former president of Marvel Comics, set a world record - this work of his received in 2012 a prize from the Guinness Book of Records for the largest graphic novel in the stories (63 by 83 centimeters around the perimeter, five centimeters thick, 155 pages). Lee then gave the cash prize set for the record to the Cancer Foundation.

"We really wanted to follow the letter of Shakespeare's plot, but at the same time transfer it to the world of comics. Therefore, out of respect for the original, our brainchild is much larger than an ordinary comic book volume," says Stan Lee. – First of all, we wanted to satisfy the aspirations of our readers, but at the same time it was extremely important for us to create a real work of art, not just a book. And day after day, watching all these pictures being born was just a miracle for me. This is exactly the result we dreamed of. We have squeezed all the juices out of history and ourselves and now we are serving it to you in the best possible way."

Needless to say, Romeo and Juliet: The War instantly became a bestseller?

Perhaps the only (so far) fly in the ointment: Lionsgate, famous for, say, "Saw", "Hostel", "American Psychopath", in recent years has made a noticeable emphasis on the teenage "soap" fiction "The Hunger Games". And as can be understood from the words of producers Paris Kasidokostas Latsis and Terry Dugas ("Machete kills", both are currently working on a tape with Tom Cruise "Mena"), given how successfully franchises like "Games" and "Divergent" diverge, "Romeo and Juliet: War" can be implemented in something like this toothless spirit.
