Cancer alertness without carcinophobia

Scientists named 8 reasons for an immediate visit to an oncologistABC Magazine based on BBC materials: Top eight cancer signs pinpointed

A group of scientists from the University of Kiel analyzed data from 25 studies and compiled a list of symptoms that are difficult to link to any particular disease, but at the same time they can talk about a possible threat of cancer.

There are more than 200 different types of cancer that manifest in different ways. Scientists have identified eight main symptoms, which in one case out of 20 and more often were observed with a really diagnosed cancer.

The researchers are sure that the following symptoms should be a reason for an immediate visit to the doctor:

  • Anemia.
  • Blood in the urine.
  • Cough with blood.
  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • A tumor or a lump in the mammary gland.
  • Bleeding in the postmenopausal period.
  • Detected pathology during prostate examination.
  • Blood from the rectum.

In patients younger than 55 years of age, only two of the eight symptoms listed met the selection criteria: abnormalities detected during prostate examination, and breast compaction or tumor. In men over 55 years of age, difficulty swallowing can indicate the presence of esophageal cancer, and blood in the urine over the age of 60 years should serve as an unambiguous reason for visiting a doctor for both men and women.

Doctors clarify that when the above symptoms appear, you should panic, but you need to understand that the sooner the cancer is detected, the more chances for a successful cure, so it is better in this case to undergo an examination as soon as possible.
