Microbiologist showed the bacteria remaining on the hands of a child after a walk

News from Today: Striking photo shows all the bacteria on an 8-year-old's handAmerican microbiologist Tasha Sturm decided to show how many bacteria accumulate on the hands of children after a walk.

To do this, she asked her 8-year-old son to touch the sterile nutrient medium on a Petri dish with his palm, and then incubated the sample at 37oC for several days.

A photo of a Petri dish with a bacterial "fingerprint", published on Microbe World, caused a real stir on the Internet. "The experiment showed that bacteria are literally everywhere," said Sturm, noting that her son was very interested to learn the results of a small study.

According to the microbiologist, a large white spot in the lower right part represents a colony of Bacillus.

Other light formations may be staphylococcal colonies, and yellow and orange spots may be yeast.

"We encounter a lot of bacteria every day, this is normal. The skin performs a barrier function, protecting the body from the harmful effects of microorganisms," explained Sturm. She added that both of her children know that after walking or playing with a pet, you definitely need to wash your hands. According to her, this is a matter of basic hygiene.
