Take care of the men!

RAN: Relative lack of luxury can cause illness in men

Copper news

According to the results of research by Russian scientists, it turned out that the relative lack of luxury affects the health of men. Kommersant writes about this with reference to a study by the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was based on monitoring data, in which 6.4 thousand households were surveyed.

The article, in particular, says that the lack of luxury goods increases the health risks of men by one and a half times. At the same time, it is enough for women to have a set of essential goods to maintain an acceptable state of health.

Olga Kislitsyna, Head of the problems of measuring the quality of life at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, notes that the differences in the health status of people with different social status are confirmed by many studies. The lower the position, the higher the health risk. However, this mechanism works differently for men and women.

"Mathematical models were built that showed that a material hypothesis is needed for women. That is, a woman is sick because she lacks some necessary resources - food, housing, medical and drug provision," the author of the study explained.

"And for men, the psychosocial hypothesis turned out to be important – to compare their position with the position of other people. And if this comparison is not in their favor, they get sick," she said. Thus, relative factors play an important role for men.
