The volume of production of biotechnological products in Russia by 2020, according to the BIO-2020 program developed by the Ministry of Economic Development, will increase to 800 billion rubles compared to 24 billion rubles in 2010, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovative Development of the MAYOR Grigory Senchenya said on Thursday.

According to him, in 2015 the volume of biotechnological production will grow to 200 billion. At the same time, the volume of consumption of such products in Russia, from 210 billion rubles in 2010, will increase in 2015 to 400 billion, and in 2020 – to 1 trillion rubles.

Accordingly, the share of imports of biotechnology products from 80% in 2010 will decrease to 40% in 2020, and the share of exports during the same time will grow from less than 1% to 25%.

"The draft program is currently being coordinated with federal agencies, but its text is already there, and key benchmarks have been identified," Senchenya said.

He noted that the goal of the biotechnology development program in the Russian Federation until 2020 is to bring the country to a leading position in the world in this area.

"This program will combine all the activity in the country related to biotechnology. It imposes certain requirements for the formation of subsequent state programs that will be developed by federal authorities," he said.

Senchenya also noted that a number of support tools are planned within the framework of the program, including stimulating the creation of biotechnological clusters in the regions of Russia.
