A center for the development of innovative medicines has opened in St. Petersburg

The Center of Excellence for the Development of Innovative Medicines and Technologies has opened in the building of the St. Petersburg State Chemical and Pharmaceutical Academy (SPHFA). The opening ceremony on Tuesday was attended by the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Sergey Movchan, the correspondent of the ABN.

At the moment, the Center has departments for working with hard, soft and injectable dosage forms. In addition, quality control laboratories, spectral and chromatographic analysis methods have already been launched. They will carry out research and development work, as well as training of SPHFA students

According to the rector of SPHFA Igor Narkevich, funds for the construction of the Center were allocated under the program "Pharma 2020". "The reconstruction of the building continues," said the rector of the Academy. He also added that the SPFHA building is an architectural monument, and construction work was carried out by "gentle methods".

As the vice-governor of Movchan stated, the idea of creating such a center arose quite a long time ago. "The decision to create such a center was made by Valentina Matvienko. Georgy Poltavchenko picked it up," said Movchan.

It should be noted that the St. Petersburg State Chemical and Pharmaceutical Academy includes the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Industrial Technology of Medicines and the Faculty of Additional Professional Education. The Academy cooperates with pharmaceutical companies BIOCAD, JSC "Biosynthesis", CJSC "VERTEX", GalenoPharm – JSC "Pharmaceutical Factory of St. Petersburg", LLC "Geropharm" and others.

The opening of the Center of Excellence for the Development of Innovative Medicines and Technologies is timed to coincide with the VI International partnership forum Life Sciences Invest Partnering Russia, which will open on Wednesday, November 9 in St. Petersburg. Within the framework of the forum, meetings of scientists, doctors, representatives of the pharmaceutical business and government will take place.

The forum is organized by the Non-Profit Partnership "Medical and Pharmaceutical Projects of the XXI century" Non-Profit Partnership "Medical and Pharmaceutical Projects. XXI century". The event is traditionally supported by the Committee for Industrial Policy and Innovation of St. Petersburg, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, as well as the Government of St. Petersburg. The forum partners are MSD Pharmaceuticals, Novo Nordisk LLC, Generium CJSC, Samson-Med LLC and Polisan NTFF.
