Since September 26, 2017, the II International Scientific Conference "Biotechnology of New materials – Environment – quality of life" has been held at Siberian Federal University. It was organized by the Institute of Fundamental Biology and Biotechnology of SibFU with the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.

According to one of the main organizers, head of the Basic Department of Biotechnology of IFBiBT, Professor of SFU Tatiana Volova, the conference is attended by world scientists and leaders in the field of biotechnology and nanomaterials from China, the USA, Turkey, Greece and India.

"The conference is dedicated to the problems of ecology, life support, quality of life and the potential of biotechnology in this area. Man and the environment have always been in conflict, in turn, the huge anthropogenic pressure leads to the fact that not only biotic cycles, but also the person himself, are under threat of existence, – said Tatiana Grigorievna. – Given the modern exports of the XXI century – a huge amount of toxic waste, difficult to identify and treat diseases, exhaustion of mineral resources – scientists have a task – to look for nature-friendly technologies. And here biotechnology comes to the fore – processes that use the potential of living systems in their organisms."

Professor of the Medical School of the University of Crete, President of the Association of European Toxicologists and Toxicological Societies (Eurotox) will make a report on the diagnosis and modulation of aging processes during the conference Aristides Tsatsakis: "Everyone wants to live longer and well, but the aging process is influenced by many factors. In my research, I will talk about measuring the length of DNA (so in the text – VM). So, when it becomes less than the critical value, DNA instability occurs and, accordingly, various diseases. This is especially true for chronic diseases, because they are primarily associated with DNA instability. Currently, in the clinics of Greece, we are already conducting a technique for measuring the length of DNA (probably telomeres, but we will leave as is – VM here), the analysis lasts from 12 hours."

In addition, the conference will discuss the role and potential of biotechnology for the synthesis of target products and environmental conservation, environmental conservation issues, the use of new biomaterials in medicine and pharmacology, and much more.

The conference will last until September 29.
