32% of babies born in 2015 in the UK will develop dementia in the future.

These are the results of a study conducted by the Office of Health Economics (OHE) Institute commissioned by the charity Alzheimer's Research UK (One in three people born in 2015 will develop dementia, new analysis shows – VM).

Dementia already affects 850 thousand people in the United Kingdom, and 35.6 million worldwide. These are the data of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Among Britons born in 2015, 37% of girls and 27% of boys will suffer from dementia in some form in the future. The number of cases of dementia may be higher, because in their calculations, researchers from OHE did not take into account cases of dementia starting before the age of 60.

To make the calculations, scientists from OHE used data on the life expectancy of Britons to date and the incidence of dementia among men and women of different ages, reports The Independent (Alzheimer's: A third of Britons born in 2015 will develop dementia, report says).

In 2012-2013, the UK spent 73.8 million pounds on dementia research, and 502.8 million pounds on cancer research.

In total, the world spends $818 billion on fighting dementia. In three years, spending could grow to a trillion dollars.

Dementia – dementia syndrome: degradation of memory, thinking, behavior and loss of ability to perform simple actions. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia; it accounts for more than 60% of all cases of dementia.
