The Ministry of Defense has developed a list of diseases - contraindications to military service

The Ministry of Defense has developed a list of diseases that will make it impossible to perform military service during mobilization. Such diseases include HIV, hepatitis, and advanced blood oncology.

The Ministry of Defense has developed a list of diseases in which a restricted fit citizen cannot be accepted for contract military service in the Russian army during mobilization, wartime or martial law. The draft order is posted on the regulation.gov.ru portal.

Among the diseases - HIV, hepatitis B and C, all forms of active tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus type 1, epilepsy with rare attacks, suffered a stroke. The list also includes malignant neoplasms of lymphoid, hematopoietic and related tissues. There are no other oncologic nosologies in the list.

Among the diseases without additional specifications and restrictions are only mental disorders and behavioral disorders caused by the use of psychoactive substances.

Also, a citizen will not be taken for contract service if he has wounds and burns that make it difficult to wear a military uniform, as well as "scars disfiguring the face". The absence of certain parts of the limbs (for example, one hand at the level of the metacarpal bones or the wrist joint, or specific fingers) will also be a contraindication to military service.

At the end of June, Russia adopted a law according to which those with limited fitness for military service will be able to sign a contract during mobilization, martial law and wartime. The explanatory note to the bill stated that the law was aimed at citizens "wishing to enroll in military service under contract from among those with whom a contract cannot be concluded".
