R-Pharm and American Human Longevity will open in Centers of genetic diagnostics in Russia

The Russian pharmaceutical company R-Pharm has signed an agreement with the American medical company Human Longevity on the establishment of The head of the Board of Directors of R-Pharm Alexey Repik told RNS about the network of centers for functional and genetic diagnostics in Russia. Human Longevity was founded with the participation of a well–known American geneticist, founder of the US Institute of Genomic Research Craig Venter, who is now its chairman of the board of directors.

"We have signed an agreement with Craig Venter. We have been preparing this project for two years. Together we are going to launch in Russia's project is the one they are doing in the States, and which they are launching in Russia, and then they will launch in China. The project is connected with the creation of centers for functional and genetic diagnostics, where there is a bundle of genome variations from the standard with objective data: MRI and others," he said.

R-Pharm will carry out the full scope of work, including work on diagnostics and data analysis, and Human Longevity, according to the agreement, will provide methods.

According to the head of R-Pharm, the first center in Russia may be launched as early as next year. Repik noted that the creation of each center will cost about $15 million "All the added value (of genetic centers), primarily in the genetic part and computer science. And the plus, of course, is the high quality of analytical capabilities in terms of analyzing functional diagnostic data," Repik added.

R-Pharm is a large Russian pharmaceutical company, according to SPARK, the revenue of R-Pharm in 2016 amounted to 62.96 billion rubles. In October 2017, R-Pharm closed a deal to sell a 10% stake in the Japanese company Mitsui & Co. Alexey Repik is the main shareholder.
