WHO has calculated how many people in the world die from alcohol consumption

Alcohol consumption has turned out to be one of the main causes of death worldwide. Experts of the World Health Organization (WHO) came to this conclusion.

It is noted that every twentieth death in the world is associated with drunk driving or with diseases caused by alcohol abuse. This figure exceeds the number of deaths from AIDS, road accidents and violent crimes combined.

Three-quarters of all alcohol-related deaths occur in men. WHO estimates that 237 million men and 46 million women worldwide suffer from alcohol-related illnesses.

According to experts, most alcoholic beverages are consumed in Europe. At the same time, the WHO indicates that in In Russia, Moldova and Belarus, this trend is on the decline.

Earlier, the WHO Director General called on states to impose additional taxes on alcohol and limit advertising in order to reduce its consumption.
