The cloned old lady died
The world's first cow that appeared as a result of cloning has died in Japan
A cow named Kaga from the world's first pair of twins born as a result of cloning died in a nature reserve in Ishikawa Prefecture from old age. This was reported on Thursday by the agency Kyodo (World's 1st cloned cow dies in central Japan at 21 – VM).
At the time of her death, her age was 21 years and three months. During the last weeks, it was difficult for her to move independently, and veterinarians gave her various nutrients and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Her twin sister, named Noto, died last year also of natural causes.
Noto and Kaga were born in July 1998. They were cloned by Kindai University specialists who used adult stem cells. When cloning them, the same technologies were used as when creating Dolly the sheep in 1996.
Both of them brought offspring during their lives. The average life expectancy of ordinary cows is about 20 years, so the clones created by Japanese scientists in this indicator fully corresponded to other animals.
