The Russian generic is no worse and much cheaper than the Swiss one

The Russian Federation announced the release of a domestic analogue
medications for metastatic cancer

Copper news

In the second half of 2015, a domestic analogue of the metastatic cancer drug will enter the Russian market. This, as reported by TASS, was stated by Roman Ivanov– vice president of the Biocad company, which is developing the drug.

He clarified that injections of the drug prevent the growth of a cancerous tumor, but do not destroy it. The drug is used simultaneously with chemotherapy during the period when the spread of the disease can be contained. "It can be several months or years, depending on the specific situation," Ivanov explained. The drug can be used in the treatment of lung, kidney, breast, bowel, ovarian cancer.

Currently, a Swiss drug for metastatic cancer is used in Russia – one of the most expensive drugs from those that are purchased under the program "Provision of necessary medicines". In particular, last year patients and the state spent 3.2 billion rubles on this medicine. Biocad assures that the company's facilities are able to fully cover the needs of Russian patients in an anti-cancer drug.

According to Ivanov, the cost of a domestic medicine will be 30-40% lower than a foreign one, the course of treatment of which costs about two million rubles. The vice president of the company believes that competition between Russian and foreign manufacturers can reduce the cost of medicines by three to four times. "So far, manufacturers of imported analogs do not show a tendency to lower prices in Russia," Ivanov stated.

Now the biosimilar of the anticancer drug has been submitted for registration to the Ministry of Health. The drug was tested by the N. N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology, the N. N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center, the I. P. Pavlov St. Petersburg State Medical University and the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. As a result of the tests, full compliance with the original of the drug was proved.
