The state does not see biohackers at close range yet

Pavel Bylevsky, BIS Journal

On September 19, 2019, the Biohacking Conference Moscow was held in Technopolis Moscow. The participants discussed the issues of improving a person through various ways of "reprogramming" him.

Developers made their decisions, most often part-time owners or leading specialists of commercial organizations providing services of this kind. Among the human parameters to be improved, health, beauty, longevity, physical and mental abilities were considered.

A wide range of tools was presented:

  • medical (pharmaceutical and physiotherapy),
  • dietary,
  • physical therapy and fitness,
  • biotechnologies (stem cells and genetic engineering),
  • neurostimulation,
  • computer and telecommunications (the use of special gadgets, including implants – "cyborgization", BigData and "digitization of personality"),
  • as well as various complex solutions.

Of particular interest was the speech of Elena Milova (a member of the Board of Directors of the Life Extension Advocacy Foundation) on the humanitarian and social aspects of a significant increase in working age and longevity. Other participants of these aspects of biohacking, as well as moral and cultural, were not affected.

In the lobby, sponsors and partners of the conference demonstrated their products and services at booths. In addition to professionals, an audience of biohacking enthusiasts was present in the hall on a paid basis. According to the organizers of the conference, investors who are looking for a better place to invest their money also participated anonymously in the event.

Unfortunately, representatives of the relevant state legislative and executive authorities responsible for healthcare, medicine, and education were absent as a class. There were no specialists from ministries and other departments, nor from the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. Meanwhile, their participation could serve as a prologue to the integration of promising solutions into state policy in the field of "human engineering".

Then raising the retirement age would be a natural consequence of extending the working age, and it would not be fraught with a decrease in the rating of the country's political leadership. On the contrary, supplemented by guaranteed employment of such citizens, it would be with a bang and enthusiastically received by civil society.
