British women will collect 12 thousand baby teeth for a monument to stem cellsCopper news
British children have been asked to give away their lost baby teeth, which are supposed to be used to create a monument to stem cells, the BBC reports (Palace needs 12,000 baby teeth).

The idea of creating the monument belongs to a professor of biology at Imperial College London Sarah Rankin. The artist Gina Czarnecki will embody the idea.

Rankin stated that the use of stem cells is one of the main ethical problems of modern medicine. According to her, most people believe that stem cells can be obtained exclusively from embryos.

However, in addition to embryos, the source of such cells can be the tissues of the formed organism, including fat, bone marrow, umbilical cord and baby teeth. In this regard, Rankin and Czarnecki intend to build a monument to stem cells, the production of which is not associated with the destruction of embryos.

The monument will be made in the form of a two-meter coral palace. Czarnecki plans to use rubber to create it. Outside, the monument will be covered with baby teeth. According to the artist's estimates, this will require about 12 thousand teeth. After the construction, the art object will be alternately exhibited in a number of British museums.
