Ilya Dugin, Pharmvestnik based on the materials of The West Australian: Pfizer brings new chewy Viagra to MexicoThe American pharmaceutical company Pfizer has developed a new form of a drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction Viagra in the form of chewing gum specifically for Mexican patients.

The drug is called Viagra Jet, its sales will begin on March 21 this year. It is intended for patients experiencing difficulties when taking the oral form of the drug. Mexico is the second largest market for Viagra in Latin America after Brazil. The company noted that in the future Viagra Jet may be available in other countries of the region. It depends on the local regulatory authorities.

Pfizer's research has shown that in Mexico, 60% of patients grind tablets or open capsules to facilitate taking the drug.

According to 2001 data published in the medical journal Revista Mexicana Urologia, about 6 million men in Mexico suffer from impotence. According to Pfizer, 1 million patients receive treatment. IMS Health experts note that the drug accounts for about a third of the Mexican pharmaceutical market, which is the second largest in Latin America. In 2010, Viagra's sales in Mexico amounted to 55 million US dollars, the global figure was 1.93 billion US dollars.

The development of Viagra Jet will not serve as a reason to extend the patent for the drug, which expires in 2012.
