Vyatka Biotech

On October 6, Governor Nikolai Shaklein signed an order on the establishment of the Biotechnology Council under the Government of the Kirov Region. The council, along with representatives of the regional Government, included deputies of the regional legislative assembly, heads of industrial enterprises, higher educational institutions, scientific institutions included in the biotechnological complex. Among them are representatives of JSC "Center of Environmental Initiative "Press-Peat", JSC "Omutninskaya Scientific Experimental Industrial Base", LLC "Kirovsky Biochemistry Plant", agricultural and medical academies, Vyatka State University, Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, etc. The council was headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the regional Government Eduard Noskov.

The first meeting of the council was held on October 8. Opening it, E. Noskov stressed that biotechnology occupies an important place in the approved strategy of socio-economic development of the region. The Council should become the coordinator of the work aimed at the development of this industry, including the preparation of the legislative framework and the participation of the region in federal programs. The range of work is wide – it is both financial, personnel, and resource support of biotechnological innovations, E. Noskov noted.

Following the results of the first meeting of the Council, the following decisions were made: the members of the Council should submit their proposals on the terms of reference for the development of the regional target program "Development of the biotechnology cluster in the Kirov region" by the end of October, as well as determine the list of problems on the solution of which the effectiveness of the development of the biotechnology industry depends and send their proposals for the formation of a draft plan for the development of biotechnology and its further approval at the council.
