RIA News

American scientists from Duke University came to the conclusion that among representatives of generations X (people aged 38-45 years) and Y (27-37 years), as well as "late" baby boomers (born in the middle of the XX century), a decrease in life expectancy is expected. This is written by Science Daily (Mortality rates rising for Gens X and Y, too).

Scientists noted that during the global economic crisis of 2008, representatives of generations X and Y were from 25 to 43 years old. They faced serious problems related to finding a job, which negatively affected their health.

"Sociologists and politicians are aware of the financial burden that the younger generation bears on their shoulders, but they do not pay enough attention to the increased mortality rate of these people," the authors of the study said.

They analyzed data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 1990-2016.

They managed to find out that the main causes of death among generation X and millennials are suicides, drug addiction, alcohol–related diseases, diabetes, cancer and traffic accidents.

As for baby boomers, among them the highest risk of death as a result of road accidents, drug addiction, homicide, suicide, HIV/AIDS and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
