Zika virus: another vaccine

Scientists from China and France have developed a vaccine against the Zika virus

Ivan Bulatov, RIA Novosti

Scientists from China and France have jointly developed a recombinant vaccine against Zika fever, said Tang Hong, director of the Pasteur Institute at the Academy of Sciences of the People's Republic of China.

"This means that after the development of vaccines in the USA and France, the seventh Zika virus vaccine in the world and the first in Asia has entered the preclinical research phase. The vaccine may become available for use in Africa as early as 2019," the Xinhua news agency quoted Tang Hong as saying.

According to Huang Zhong, a researcher at the Pasteur Institute in Shanghai, their development is a safe and effective candidate vaccine to combat Zika fever.

When creating a recombinant vaccine, the method of genetic engineering is used, genetic structures are created in the form of hybrid DNA molecules. The creation includes several stages.

Zika fever is an acute infectious disease of monkeys, which is sometimes transmitted to humans through mosquito bites and is characterized by a fever with a benign course. The virus is most dangerous for pregnant women, as it causes microcephaly in the fetus with potential severe brain damage.
