Metavert against adenocarcinoma

A drug has been created that blocks the growth of pancreatic cancer cells

Scientists from the Los Angeles nonprofit Cedars-Sinai Hospital presented in the journal Gastroenterology the results of trials of a new drug Metavert, which fights pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, affecting both men and women with the same frequency. Now he is on the 12th line in the world among the most common types of cancer. In the United States, it became the third leading cause of death. It took four years to create a drug capable of blocking the resistance of cancer cells to therapy.

The most common type of pancreatic cancer is adenocarcinoma. The difficulty of its treatment is that cancer cells are similar to the stellate cells of the pancreas. They are involved in repairing damaged organ tissue. However, the interaction of cancer and stellate cells stimulates tumor growth. As a result, this leads to resistance to anti-cancer drugs. Dr. Stephen J. Pandol (Stephen J. Pandol), who participated in the work, said that he had repeatedly seen how patients reacted to treatment until a certain time, until cancer cells were trained to block chemotherapy.

Tests on mice showed that Metavert was able to block the growth and resistance of cancer cells, which led to the resumption of the positive effect of chemicals. On average, the survival rate increased by 50 percent.

The author of the study Mouad Edderkaoui (Mouad Edderkaoui) said about the future of the project: "This is an incredible step towards increasing survival among patients with pancreatic cancer. The following tests will be conducted on humans. If the results are confirmed, then we will have a drug that allows us to prolong the life of patients with adenocarcinoma, which is now very difficult to treat."

Earlier, oncologists solved the almost century-old riddle of cancer cell metabolism and found promising targets for future melanoma drugs.
