Melanoma vaccine provides 100% survival rate

Scientists from the USA have tested a new melanoma vaccine and achieved 100% survival in mice. An amplifying component, the Diprovocim molecule, was added to the existing experimental vaccine, which increased the effectiveness of the procedures.

The results of the study prove that the vaccine can increase the chances of survival, even if drug therapy does not work.

The vaccine was tested on mice with an aggressive form of melanoma. Previously, all rodents received an immunotherapy course of treatment. Then, for the first group, additional therapy was supplemented only with a vaccine, for the second – with a vaccine with Diprovocim, and for the third with an alternative adjuvant vaccine – alum.

As a result, the researchers observed a 100% survival rate for 54 days after using the vaccine with the "booster" Diprovocim.

Then the doctors tried to restore the tumor in mice – and failed. The vaccination still protected them.

At the same time, vaccination required only two doses in the form of injections for seven days.

In the group with an alternative booster, the survival rate was 25%. In the third group, where rodents received only an experimental vaccine, no one survived, according to the website of the Scripps Research Institute (Scientists test new cancer vaccine against melanoma).

"Studies prove that the vaccine is able to work simultaneously with cancer immunotherapy. This is a wonderful result. In addition, the advantage is that the vaccine is injected without the need to target the tumor itself," says researcher Dale Boger.

The scientists plan to continue preclinical experiments for other therapeutic regimens to evaluate the effect of combined treatment.
