Binnopharm to open pharmaceutical plant
Zelenograd will provide medicines to the whole of Russia

In 2009, Binnopharm will open a pharmaceutical plant in Zelenograd. The new company will become the largest manufacturer of medicines that meet the international quality standard Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The products of the plant, which will cover an area of 32 thousand square meters, should provide medicines in the form of tablets, capsules, ampoules, aerosols to the entire hospital sector of Russia. This was announced on Wednesday by Maxim Uvarov, CEO of Binnopharm CJSC, during a meeting with First Deputy Mayor of Moscow Yuri Roslyak in the prefecture of the district.
Currently, the Russian pharmaceutical market is dominated by foreign pharmaceutical companies controlling about 75% of the market. Therefore, the main strategy of Binnopharm CJSC is to produce drugs that replace imported medicines, which, according to Maxim Uvarov, will not be inferior to foreign analogues in quality and at the same time differ favorably in price.
To date, the company has registered about 20 biotechnological drugs: 17 prescription and 2 genetically engineered, designed for the treatment of hematological, oncological and infectious diseases. In addition, a large number of drugs are in development. Binnopharm is also the only company in Russia that produces a full-cycle hepatitis B vaccine on an industrial scale.
Russian emigrant scientists have been invited to work for the company. In total, about 600 people will work at the new plant in Zelenograd. The company will use biotechnological industrial production of a full cycle – from the active substance to the finished form, which is a rare phenomenon in the Russian market of medicines, Uvarov believes.
In addition to the plant, a biopharmaceutical cluster will be created on the basis of a number of high–tech enterprises in Zelenograd, focused on the development, production, sale of medicinal products and training of relevant personnel - pharmacists and veterinarians. In addition, Binnopharm is negotiating with Russian developers about moving their companies to Zelenograd to work together, as well as with Western ones to transfer their technologies to Russian soil. The next stage will be the entry of the cluster into the Zelenograd special economic zone. "The cluster is a useful thing for the state. It will prevent the spread of new viruses, fight bioterrorism, and create new innovative drugs using biotechnologies," says Maxim Uvarov. – The state provides guaranteed purchases, so that the money invested by private capital will not be lost."
The company "Binnopharm", established in 2006, is part of AFK "Sistema" and manages the assets of the corporation in the areas of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. At the beginning of 2007, Binnopharm became a vertically integrated pharmaceutical and biotechnological holding, developing in three areas: R&D, production of medicinal raw materials, as well as distribution of finished medicines.
