Complete skin recovery after wounds and burns
On June 8, PolarityTE, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, announced the results of preclinical studies of its main product SkinTE, which provides regeneration of all skin layers, including hair follicles, with deep wounds and burns of the 3rd degree. These results were obtained on a pig model, which is a standard animal model of human skin.

In the third quarter of 2017, the company plans to begin a clinical study of an autologous homologous structure obtained using SkinTE technology.
In preclinical models of burns and injuries affecting all layers of the skin, SkinTE demonstrated healing, not accompanied by scar formation, restoration of hair follicles, rapid complete closure of the wound and progressive regeneration of all layers of the skin, including the epidermis, dermis and hypodermal layers. The product obtained using SkinTE technology is made from the patient's own skin cells obtained as a result of a small biopsy within less than 24 hours.
According to experts, the effectiveness and applicability of modern methods of treating burns and deep wounds are very limited. In addition, they are usually accompanied by the formation of scars, can cause the appearance of serious cosmetic defects, and in some cases do not even prevent the death of the patient. Apparently, the new platform based on the use of the patient's own cells has great potential and can form the basis of a new model for the treatment of skin lesions.
