Biotechnologies – innovation and sustainable development

Round table "Biotechnologies – innovations and sustainable development. The Economic Efficiency of using biotechnologies in Russia" will be held on November 1 as part of one of the tracks of JSC RVC at the Open Innovations Forum – RVC SmartFuture: MarketAccess (October 31 – November 3, 2012, Moscow, Expocentre).

With the adoption of a number of state programs aimed at the development of biotechnologies – "BIO-2020", "Pharma 2020" (in terms of the development of biopharmaceuticals) – biotechnology at the state level is determined by the strategic direction of the country's development (along with information and nanotechnology).

The round table will discuss the prospects for the development of biotechnologies in Russia, their role in innovative development and their impact on the country's economy.

Topics for discussion: 

• The main areas of application of biotechnologies. The current state of the market in Russia and the world.
• How can the indirect economic effect of the use of biotechnologies in various industries be assessed? Agriculture, food industry, energy, pharmaceuticals.
• Why do the governments of many countries continue to invest heavily in the development and implementation of biotechnologies in industries that have not traditionally used these technologies: energy, plastics and packaging production, replacement of traditional chemical synthesis with biotechnologies (biochemicals)?
• Can Russia lose or significantly worsen its position in the traditional export sectors of the economy if it does not use biotechnologies?
• Prospects for the introduction of biotechnology in Russia.
• Instruments of state support for the industry. The first program for the development of biotechnologies in Russia until 2020 "Biotech-2020".
