Health age: results

Increasing life expectancy is one of the large–scale goals that Russian society strives to achieve. How to prepare a person for the "added time" from the standpoint of medicine was discussed at the III International Congress "Health age. Active Longevity", held on May 28, 2021 at the Sechenov University Congress Center.

Denis Viktorovich Butnaru, Vice-rector of Sechenov University, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. In his address, he stressed that the Congress is already becoming an interdisciplinary platform for discussing the goals and objectives reflected in the Decrees of the President of the Russian Federation, in the national projects "Healthcare" and "Demography". And first of all, it is, of course, ensuring natural and sustainable population growth and increasing life expectancy to 78 years or more.

At the plenary session, representatives of the medical community, based on the latest research, offered tools that contribute to improving the health of Russians and creating an environment comfortable for life.

"Today we are talking not just about increasing the overall life expectancy, but about increasing the duration of a healthy life. And this requires new approaches, new solutions. The issues under discussion are of particular relevance today, during the pandemic of coronavirus infection. I am convinced that today's forum will be an important step towards developing new solutions and a detailed scientific discussion of old, but effective and necessary topics in the field of healthy aging," said Oleg Olegovich Salagai, Deputy Minister of Health.

Elena Vasilyevna Bibikova, Deputy Chairman of the SF Committee on Social Policy, welcomed the organizers and participants of the congress, expressing gratitude for the actualization of the topic, which is so important for Russia and most countries of the world. The Senator also held a thematic session "Active longevity. The system of long-term care for elderly people within the framework of the federal project "Older Generation" of the national project "Demography". The event was also attended by members of the SF Committee on Social Policy Vladimir Igorevich Krugly and Yuri Viktorovich Arkharov. 

One of the important methods that positively affect public health is the head of the Department of Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine of Sechenov University Nikolai Ivanovich Briko, called vaccination. "It is thanks to vaccination that humanity has managed to increase life expectancy by 25 years over the past century. The world, with the exception of Afghanistan and Pakistan, has been living without smallpox and polio for forty years. The possibilities of modern vaccination have significantly expanded, because infectious agents are the etiological causes of many chronic and oncological diseases. The coronavirus pandemic has only highlighted the importance of the vaccination system," he stated.

The topic of gender prerequisites in the incidence of COVID-19 in his report was touched upon by the head of the Department of Urology and Andrology of the Lomonosov Moscow State University FFM Armais Albertovich Kamalov. According to him, women, due to differences in innate immunity and sex chromosomes, have a lower viral load and a lower degree of inflammation than men.

The chief freelance specialist in therapy and general medical practice focused on the problems of public health Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Olga Mikhailovna Drapkina. Among the ways to solve these problems, she called improving health literacy and creating conditions for a healthy lifestyle.

The Congress was devoted to discussing the goals and objectives of the "May" Decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On the national development Goals of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030" in terms of ensuring natural sustainable population growth and increasing life expectancy to 78 years. The Congress was attended by leading scientists of the country, heads of scientific medical research centers and associations of doctors, including gerontologists and oncologists, representatives of relevant ministries and organizations. Within the framework of thematic sessions, scientists, doctors and experts discussed issues of preserving the health of the older generation, improving the quality of life, modern achievements of fundamental medicine aimed at the treatment of age-related diseases.
