Palliative medicine: yesterday, today, tomorrow

Dear colleagues!

We have the honor to invite you to the II Scientific and Practical Conference "Palliative Medicine: yesterday, today, tomorrow", which will be held in Moscow on January 30-31, 2008. January 30 – Moscow Government Building, sector "B" (Novy Arbat str., 36/9), from 10.00 to 16.00. January 31 – City Clinical Hospital No. 11 (Dvintsev str., 6), Conference Hall (Building 1, 3rd floor), from 10.00 until 15.00

The following issues will be discussed at the Conference:

1. Problems of medical and social care for patients with chronic forms of progressive diseases, relevance and prospects of integration of palliative medicine in healthcare.
2. Problems of medical education and personnel policy in the field of palliative medicine.
3. Problems of quality of life in the treatment of patients with various nosological forms of diseases.
4. Issues of development and improvement of palliative medicine as one of the important and integral directions of domestic healthcare.
5. Problems of diagnosis and therapy of chronic pain.
6. Problems of assessing the quality of life as one of the main criteria for the effectiveness of the healthcare system.
7. The role of social movements in the development of palliative medicine in the Russian Federation.

In order to increase the prestige of palliative medicine as an integral part of the healthcare and social protection system, to recognize the contribution of specialists in the field of palliative care to patients and to encourage their creative activity, the All-Russian Public Movement "Medicine for Quality of Life" and the Foundation "Palliative Medicine and Rehabilitation" have established an annual award, which is awarded for contributions to the development of palliative medicine in Of the Russian Federation and includes three main nominations:

• "For contribution to the development of palliative care for cancer patients"
• "For contribution to the creation of a scientific school"
• "For contribution to methodological and educational work"

This year, in connection with the 20th anniversary of the organization of the palliative care service in Russia, an honorary award will be awarded
• "For outstanding contribution to the creation of palliative medicine in Russia".

The right to submit candidates for the award is granted to the Association of Palliative Medicine, the administration of regional and municipal entities of the Russian Federation, medical and preventive institutions, research and educational institutions, professional associations of doctors and nurses.

The application for the award is submitted before January 15, 2007 and includes information about the organization, applicants, a brief summary of the work and achievements in the field of palliative medicine (no more than 3 pages of typewritten text).

Summing up the work of the expert commission and the award ceremony will be held within the framework of the scientific and practical conference "Palliative medicine: yesterday, today, tomorrow" on January 30-31, 2008 in Moscow.
The winners of the competition are awarded with a commemorative diploma.
