Press conference "Bioeconomics in Russia"

On April 13, 2010 at 12:30-13:30 in Moscow, at the World Trade Center (Press Hall), a press conference "Bioeconomics in Russia - prospects and international cooperation" will be held in connection with the 2nd International Congress-Exhibition "EurasiaBio–2010" on biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, alternative energy and bioeconomics. The event is included in the calendar of the most important international events of the European Union and the European Federation of Biotechnology, the Federation of Asian Biotechnology Associations. The organizer is the Ovchinnikov Society of Biotechnologists of the Russian Federation with the support of the National Biofuel Association, the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS, the European Federation of Biotechnology and the Bioindustry Organization.

The relevance of "Eraziyabio" is explained by the increasing influence of biotechnology, as the basis of innovative development, on world economies. In combination with pharmaceuticals, the bioindustry ranks 3rd in terms of capitalization among the leading sectors of the world economy, second only to banking and oil and gas.

World market: According to the Society of Biotechnologists of Russia, the world market of biotechnological products, food enzymes, vitamins, raw materials for medicines, etc. is $160 billion. per year. Russia's share is about 1%. The volume of bioeconomics, where biotechnology products are used, in Europe alone is about 1.7 trillion euros, in Russia – almost 10 times less – about 100-120 billion euros, of which 80% are imports. In the USA, about $20 billion is invested in biotechnology. in Russia, according to various sources, several hundred million rubles a year. There are about 2000 biotech enterprises in the USA, 600 in China, 300 in India, and 50 in Russia. The share of the USA in the global volume of pharmaceutical biotechnology is 51%, Russia – 1%.

The discussion of business projects on biotechnology at the "EurasiaBio-2010" will be held with the participation of representatives of 40 countries and 30 regions of Russia, including experts from American, European and Asian biotechnology associations. The formation of joint venture funds and other possible projects will be discussed by the financial guru in the bioindustry Stephen Burril (USA). He is the Chief executive officer of Burrill & co, the "best network company" in the field of biotechnology investments.

Russia and India have already planned joint projects on biotechnology, including the creation of a Russian-Indian scientific and educational center in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals in Russia, a joint business incubator on agrobiotechnology, the production of vaccines based on Russian technologies, a project on the use of stem cells in ophthalmology based on a unique Indian development that has no analogues in the world.

The main topics for discussion at the press conference:

– Development of the Russian bioindustry as the basis of an innovative economy, taking into account world experience,
– Cooperation between Russia and foreign countries on biotechnology, including "EU-Russia: cooperation in the field of biotechnology, agriculture, forestry, fisheries and food in the 7th Framework Program of the EU", joint business projects with India, China, America, etc.
– Bioindustry Development Strategy in the Russian Federation for 2010-2020, developed by the biotechnological community for the Government of the Russian Federation,
