Show generosity :)

Intermountain Healthcare system has announced the creation of a global database of DNA of patients around the world, which scientists could use to search for genetic risk factors, prevention and treatment of diseases, as well as other genetic studies.

The name of the new registry is GeneRosity Registry (a play on words, from the English “gene" and “generosity” – generosity). The authors of the project appealed to everyone who underwent a genetic examination with a request to upload their processed or unprocessed data to a special website. In addition, they ask volunteers to share the history of diseases that have occurred in their blood relatives.

The researchers hope that they will be able to reach a wide audience, because this work will create an excellent resource for works that will affect not only the current, but also future generations.

As the authors write, it can be extremely difficult to find the necessary gene to study a particular disease, because human DNA consists of more than 3 billion individual pairs of nucleotides. A unified register containing data on the genotype and hereditary history of its carrier is designed to facilitate the organization of research.

All collected information will be stored on a secure resource accessible only to researchers subscribed to the database program.
