Scientists have found a possible basis for anti-aging therapies

Scientists at the University of California at San Diego have managed to slow down the aging process of cells with the help of synthetic biology. This was reported on April 27 by the scientific journal Science.

The researchers were able to reprogram the transcriptional switch of yeast cells, which led to their death due to the disintegration of either nuclei or mitochondria. The oscillation between the two states resulted in an 82% increase in their lifespan.

"Our results establish a link between gene network architecture and cellular longevity, which may lead to rationally designed gene circuits that slow aging," the study authors said.

Earlier, in December 2022, American scientists from Northwestern University elucidated the principle of aging in the human body. They found that in almost any tissues and organs with age increases the imbalance of activity of long and short genes. According to scientists, the results obtained will make it possible in the future to develop a drug against dangerous diseases that accelerate old age.
