DAAD invites scientists to visit Germany

Scientific internships for scientists and university teachers

DAAD scholarships enable scientists from abroad to conduct research and improve their professional qualifications in Germany. A wide range of scholarship programs allows you to get support for applicants who have different levels of academic qualifications and are at different stages of the career ladder. 

The purpose of this program is to support short–term research internships for the exchange of experience, as well as to expand and strengthen contacts with colleagues. 

Target group 

University professors and established scientists are allowed to participate in the competition, who, as a rule, must have a PhD degree and work at a Russian university or research institute/ center. 

Former fellows of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation are recommended, first of all, to apply to this Foundation. 

Type of scholarship 

  • The scholarship is intended for a scientific internship at a state or state-accredited university or an extra-university research center in Germany. The project can be implemented on the basis of several German universities.
  • You can use the scholarship no more than once within 3 years.
  • Lectures and participation in congresses are not supported under this scholarship.

Duration of the scholarship 

  • from 1 to 3 months; the period for which the scholarship is awarded is determined by the selection committee, depending on the project submitted for the competition and the work schedule.
  • Scholarships of this type are not extended.

The size and content of the scholarship 

  • the amount of the scholarship (monthly) depending on the status of the scholarship holder
    • 2.000,- euro for teachers and associate professors,
    • 2.150,- euro for professors.
  • a fixed payment for partial coverage of travel expenses (if the university or third parties in the home of the scholarship holder do not bear the costs).
  • no other financial payments are provided.

Selection of applicants 

Decisions are made by an independent selection committee. The main selection criteria are: 

  • scientific achievements and relevant publications of the applicant, which should be reflected in the resume and in the list of publications
  • a convincing and well-planned research project.
