Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowships – 2013

Grants 2013 for young scientists (Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowships)

The joint program of research grants (scholarships) of the Association of Leibniz Research Institutes (Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowships – was established in 2011.

PostDoc scholarships enable promising candidates of sciences who have recently defended their dissertation to participate in research at the Association's institutes in Germany in the following areas:

  • Section A: Research in humanities and education;
  • Section B: Economic, social and so-called Spatial Sciences studies;
  • Section C: Life Sciences;
  • Section D: Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Engineering disciplines;
  • Section E: Ecology.

The grant for participation in the program is allocated for up to 12 months.

The grant amount is 2,000 EUR per month. In addition to this amount, a monthly allowance is provided to pay for medical insurance (58 EUR). If necessary, the scholarship holder gets the opportunity to take a two-month German language course.

Requirements for program participants:

  • High level of scientific results;
  • PhD degree or its equivalent (the thesis must be defended no more than 2 years ago);
  • Excellent command of English. Knowledge of German is desirable.

Application requirements:

  • All documents are submitted in duplicate. Incomplete applications are not considered. To apply, you must use the form " Application for Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowships".
  • The following documents must be attached to the application:
  • Abstract of the dissertation (maximum 3 pages)
  • List of publications
  • Full biography
  • Two letters of recommendation written by senior colleagues working in the same line of research. Recommendations in sealed envelopes must be attached to the rest of the documents or sent by the referrers directly to the DAAD office in Bonn so that they are received before the deadline for receiving documents.
  • Copies of diplomas
  • Recently taken photo (attached to the application)
  • Test results confirming the level of English language proficiency (TOEFL 550/213/80; IELTS: 6.0) obtained no more than 5 years ago.
  • Description of the research project (3 pages).
  • Detailed work plan (1 page).

When applying for participation in the program, please note that DAAD transfers your documents and your personal data to the Leibniz Association and its associated institutes. DAAD, the Leibniz Association and the institutes of the Association will not transfer your data to third parties.

All documents must be received at the DAAD head office in Bonn by March 7, 2013.

Incomplete applications and applications received after March 7, 2013 will not be considered.
