RIKEN invites postdocs

Grants for participation in postdoctoral research (Japan)

The Japanese scientific organization RIKEN announces the acceptance of applications from foreign scientists for participation in postdoctoral research programs. Promising researchers, carriers of innovative ideas, who are able to earn recognition from the world scientific community in the future, are invited to participate in the program.

The purpose of this program is to expand the scope of national scientific research and enable RIKEN institutes to work at a high global research level, thereby making RIKEN a global scientific organization.

Scientists specializing in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering and other related fields developed at RIKEN are invited to participate in the program. A total of 18 scholarships will be offered.

Applicants can participate in the program:

  • NON-Japanese citizens;
  • having a PhD degree in natural sciences obtained after January 1, 2007 or planning to obtain a degree by the beginning of the program. Applicants who received a degree before December 31, 2006 can also apply for participation in the program if they have documentary evidence of interruptions in their scientific career related to pregnancy, childbirth, child care, etc., such that the total period of their scientific activity meets the requirements of the program;
  • those who have the opportunity to start working at RIKEN during the 2013 fiscal year (from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014).

RIKEN employees cannot apply for participation in the program unless they have been hired in the last two years (fiscal years 2011 and 2012).

The duration of the contract is from the moment of hiring until March 31, 2014. The contract can be extended by the results of the work for a maximum of three years.

The basic financing is 487,000 yen per month.

The deadline for accepting applications is May 31, 2012.

RIKEN (from the Japanese Rikagaku Kenkyusho – "Institute of Physico-Chemical Research") It was established in 1917 as a private scientific institute funded by industry, the government and the Emperor.
