Science and Nanofantastics

Regulations on the All–Russian competition "Science to Society"The organizers of the contest:

Lomonosov Moscow State University, Park-Media company with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

Modern society cannot move forward without the development of science, just as science cannot successfully carry out its tasks without the support of society. The interaction of society and science is a two–way process that requires constant attention. This goal is served, in particular, by Science Festivals, which are held annually in Russia on the initiative of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. This competition is held within the framework of the V Festival of Science. The purpose of the competition is to encourage the popularization of science.

Popular science articles and videos dedicated to the achievements of Russian science in recent years are submitted to the competition. Articles prepared specifically for the contest, as well as those published in a printed or electronic publication in the period from January 1, 2009 to September 11, 2010, video materials shown on television or posted on the Internet for the same period are accepted. The article should be specific and clear, presented in a popular, good literary language, it can be supplemented with illustrations. Articles and videos should not contain inappropriate technical details, formulas, they should not be overloaded with special terminology that is incomprehensible to a wide audience.

The works are accepted until September 11, 2010, the winners will be announced in October 2010, as part of the program of the V Festival of Science.

Sketches about scientistsThe first prize is 15,000 rubles.

Special Jury PrizeThe first prize is 10,000 rubles.

Special nomination "Nanofiction"The magazine "Russian Nanotechnologies" announces a nomination for short stories and novellas in the genre of science fiction, the creation of which the authors were inspired by nanotechnology.

The winner will receive a valuable prize from the editorial board of the magazine.

TERMS OF THE COMPETITION:1. Everyone is invited to participate in the competition, regardless of the field of occupation and age, country of residence.


2. The deadline for submitting the article is September 11, 2010.
3. The author can submit only one article in each nomination.
4. Articles are accepted only in electronic form in Russian in the Microsoft Word editor (*.doc or *.rtf format). The font is Times NewRoman, the interval is one and a half.
5. Works sent in archived form are not accepted.
6. Articles should not exceed 18,000 characters with spaces (10 standard typewritten pages). The size of the material for "Nanofiction" is from 6,000 to 30,000 characters.
7. The article is accompanied by the author's full name, title and annotation (no more than 360 characters).
8. The text can be illustrated with photographs, adapted diagrams and drawings.
9. It is necessary to send data about the author in a separate file:

  • Full name (in full);
  • Age;
  • Education (academic degree and titles, if available);
  • Place of work or study;
  • Post;
  • Contact phone numbers;
  • E-mail;
  • Address.

10. Scientific articles and pseudoscientific hypotheses are not accepted. Articles are not reviewed and are not returned.
11. The article may be published in print or electronic edition in the period from January 1, 2009 to September 1, 2010.
12. If the article has been published, it can be submitted as an electronic copy of the publication in pdf format (the file size is not more than 1 megabyte). The copy should show the attributes of the publication: publication, author, title of the article, date of publication.

Illustrations:1) Can be placed inside the text.
Illustrations should have end-to-end numbering by article (not by sections) and captions. Alphanumeric numbering (1a, 2b) is undesirable.
2) Illustrations are sent separately from the text in jpg, tif, pdf formats (no more than 200 kb each);

  • The work can be prepared by a team of authors.
  • The author has the right to submit one work in each nomination.
  • The works are not reviewed and are not returned.
  • Video file formats: avi, mpg, flv and mov.
  • The maximum duration of the video work is 30 minutes
  • Works are accepted for the competition until September 11, 2010.

Materials should be sent in electronic form to: sf@strf.ru (marked "Science Festival").The works will be posted on the website STRF.ru and they will be able to claim victory in the nomination "Audience Award".

The best competitive works will be published in the publication "Science and Technology of Russia – STRF.ru ". The articles of the winners with the consent of the authors can be published in the printed editions of the company "Park-media".
